Each month we host a live Twitter chat with our stylist, presenter and fashion writer Helen Boyle. Whether you’re looking for the perfect bikini for your figure or want to know about a certain style rule – Helen is here to impart her style wisdom and solve all your holiday style dilemmas! Here’s all the conversation from the latest in our series of Style Surgeries.
Swimwear365: OK, let’s go! @HelenBStylist I’m looking for a swimming costume that I can wear during the day and dressed up at night? Asked by @Jemmajamesx
Helen Boyle: Hi Jemma. How about this? It’s just in. http://t.co/2PpGlghQ You’ll make a statement both by the pool & at a party! For a more classic style to dress up & down why not try this great French Connection number http://t.co/8zflOVDK
S365: I heard someone on TV at the weekend say ‘the smaller the bikini the smaller you look’ any truth to that?
Asked by @hellsbells_80
HB: It totally depends on your body shape. DO show off your good bits and work to disguise any problem areas. Drawing attention to problem areas by wearing a super skimpy bikini is not what I would recommend…unless you are perfectly in proportion. Hope that helps.
S365: What is the best pattern (apart from black :p ) would flatter curves the best?
Asked by @porxie
HB: I am loving polka dots this season & Swimwear 365 have an fab section for this trend. Check out http://t.co/dBCvFTTn. You find that much of the polka dot swimwear comes in great 50′s style shapes – super flattering for a curvy figure.
S365: I love vintage 50′s style swimwear – is there any brand or range you’d recommend? Asked by @limicooper
HB: Ooooh great choice. Here is a link for lots of great styles. http://t.co/dBCvFTTn The best brands with a 50′s feel are LASCANA for polka dots & Buffalo for gingham – both great swimwear shapes too.
S365: I have a small bust & quite self conscious of it in swimwear – what style will give me more of a cleavage look? Asked by @therealsupermum
HB: Totally understand your dilemma. Check out the Marie Claire range for a fab cleavage… http://t.co/UV9lq5Ue The gel insert & extra padding will enhance a bust so you feel more in proportion & less conscious.
S365: I want swimwear that I wear swimming won’t have to worry about it going see through or shrinking. Asked by @jemmajamesx
HB: First always check in the label for instructions; wash with similar colours & never too high temperature. For something that won’t be see through, go for a print. This is a gorg bikini… http://t.co/wGX1hVRm
S365: I love a retro and vintage style but i want good fit and shape being plus size any ideas? Asked by @rosieroundface
HB: Always filter down your selection by plugging in your size into the left hand column so you can see you options and some lovely retro swimwear options come up. My fave – http://t.co/9rYOmdGD The ruching at the front flatters the tummy the bold polka dots are fab & retro and it’s a great shape.
S365: Any suggestions of how to make my waist look smaller in my swim suit? Asked by @goriami
HB: Oooh lots. First a body shaper swimsuit like this one http://t.co/GMOM9Zsz the halter-neck & monochrome will flatter. This swimsuit draws attention away from the waist and to the bust http://t.co/6P1JrfEI This swimsuit will disguise and flatter a waist with the ripple effect http://t.co/QEZ0fnTU For a bold option the detail on this swimsuit accentuates a waist http://t.co/bxygHbLI
S365: As a size 12/14 pear shape I find swimming stuff a nightmare! What should I wear?! Asked by @sarahdaly8
HB: Aah bless you….why not try a swimdress? I love this one as classy and will disguise http://t.co/YEN5vbvT Also pop in your measurements to the style calculator on the website and a whole load of suggestions will come up http://t.co/pLumS9uv
S365: I am only 5ft should I be buying petite ranges do swimwear even do petite ranges? Asked by @TheRealSupermum
HB: Why not go for something with an adjustable strap. Here is a great example.. http://t.co/urwtsztj
S365: I’m going to Oz for 3 weeks I am 32 should I be packing costumes or bikinis when is too old for a bikini? Asked by therealsupermum
HB: You are never too old. It’s what you feel comfy in & what flatters your shape. Beach cover-up’s are great too
S365: What’s the best maternity swimsuit? Asked by @sebsmummy
HB: For something summery w/ a retro print how about this fab maternity swimsuit. Congrats too! http://t.co/6FsIz3Jf
