Swimwear trends for 2012

Whether looking forward to your next beach holiday or just wanting to look hip by the pool, try matching your swimwear choices to the catwalks and keep up with the latest trends. They may be a little less couture and hopefully slightly more water resilient, but choosing from stand-out cuts or tropical prints you’ll be sure to look your best whether stepping in or out of the water.
Retro
The past always has an influence on fashion, whether its catwalk or highstreet with the retro style set to make a big impact in women’s swimwear this season. Taking inspiration from the styles of days gone by, look at for 70s colours and stomach sculpting high waisted cuts.
Exotic Prints
This summer is certainly the time to say it loud, with colourful and exotic prints set to make you stand out from the crowd. In the mix are animal prints, inspired ikat and tribal ethnic prints – all creating the image of faraway places.
Low rise bikini bottoms in exotic prints are a great way to create a long lithe look by elongating your torso – the perfect beach look.
High-waist bikinis
High-waisted bikini bottoms have been around for a while now, but they’re really set to come to the fore in 2012 – ideal for those looking to lengthen their legs while offering some support for the stomach.
Statement straps
Where straps were once flimsy and clear, one of the biggest women’s swimwear trends this year has seen a re-emergence in big bold straps. Perfect for making a statement and to ensure everything is kept in place post-swim.
Solid colours
It’s not just about busy prints this year, with block colour swimsuits also set to make an impression. While opting for black can have the desired slimming effect why not step out of your comfort zone a little and choose from a variety of bright colours, with hot red, sunkissed yellow and turquoise blue the dominant shades to catch the eye this summer.
If just one block colour is too boring for you, you don’t have to team the same bikini bottoms with top. If you’ve got a short frame and more of a triangle shaped figure, selecting a darker solid for bikini bottoms with a lighter solid colour up top will help emphasise your bust and take the attention away from your hips.
