Happy National Bikini Day!
According to official history, the 5th July 2016 marks the 70th anniversary of the bikini.
To celebrate the Bikini’s 70th Birthday we commissioned a survey to establish if attitudes towards the Bikini have changed over the years.
What we found out was interesting….
The bikini babe hall of fame
According to the 2,000 women we surveyed, the three hottest bikini babes of all time were:
1. Raquel Welch: Famous for wearing nothing but a doe-skin bikini in the film ‘One Million Years BC’
2. Ursula Andress: Known for her scene in James Bond’s ‘Dr No’ where she rises from the sea in a classic white bikini
3. Marilyn Monroe: Recognised for her curves and admired for her lack of inhibition
Our modern day bikini babes such as Kelly Brook, Michelle Keegan, Beyonce and Jennifer Lopez were in the top 10, but beaten to the top three spots by these iconic women who not only brought the bikini to life, but made it what it is today – something to be celebrated.
World class hourglass
The hourglass figure was the shape most desired by the women we surveyed. Although the majority felt more classically Pear shaped, 41% did believe that it was possible to get that ‘perfect’ bikini body – so look out for more hourglass shapes this summer!

Home or away?
A third of the audience surveyed felt more relaxed wearing a bikini abroad rather than in the UK (the weather may have influenced this!), however even when abroad, 6 out of 10 admitted they still felt shy in their bikinis and were uncomfortable with people looking at them. The common cause for feeling uncomfortable was wearing a bikini that didn’t fit well.
Avoid this by using the body shape calculator to get the right bikini to fit your shape perfectly.
Bikini nightmares
Common bikini nightmares included standing up after forgetting the bikini top was untied, a bikini unexpectedly turning see-through when wet, bikini tops pinging off when coming down a waterslide and unwanted stares from other beach goers (which could be related to one or all of the above nightmares!)
Be body confident
Although bikini trends may have changed over the years – attitudes have remained the same in that no matter where you are in the world, it’s important to feel confident in yourself. Wear your bikini with pride just like Raquel Welch, Ursula Andress and Marilyn Monroe did 70 years ago!
