Swimwear Trend – Retro
In my mind, retro conjures up a huge world of vintage wonders. Most notably the 1950’s. Think pin-ups and bombshells with the likes of Marilyn Monroe, Grace Kelly and Jayne Mansfield as inspiration. The whole look was playful, with plenty of sex appeal. Curves were the order of the day with the perfect proportions of bust, waist and hip.
Today we are still inspired by the past, looking back at some of the key characteristics and producing modern pieces infused with the key characteristics of vintage eras.
- Key details include a higher waist, frills and ruffles, vintage prints, sweetheart necklines and full cupped tops. All go hand-in hand with being exceptionally flattering for the majority of figures too. Either to enhance your curves or to flatter problem areas.
- Gingham and polka dots are also a subtle nod to retro styles. I also love the typically retro gingham print bikini by Buffalo. The bandeau shape is key and great for tanning too.
Swimwear365 has come up trumps with a delectable selection of retro/vintage feel swimwear. My absolute favourite is the gorgeous LASCANA navy blue bandeau bikini. The rouching detail and indulgent colour make it look way more expensive than its price tag, it offers all the comfort and support you could ask for and it come with detachable straps too. Accessorize all with a large floppy hat and some wedges to complete the look.
